This was one of the worst experience I’ve ever had at an auto repair facility. I do most of my own work on my vehicle, but took it to these guys to charge the new A/C I just installed. In addition to that I asked them to check for a small transmission leak and to fix the electrical connection on the AC. One of the pins was loose. The service rep. said they would do a complete inspection of the car and give me a detailed safety and service report. I told him that wasn’t necessary because I was very familiar with my truck. I was restoring it, and less than 10,000 miles ago I installed a new GM engine. I also replaced almost everything fro the firewall forward with NEW GM parts. That included much of what the report they gave me said was in dire need of service. $3300 worth of service to be exact. They said it needed a valve cleaning and service and maybe a valve job. Also the brake fluid and power steering fluid was way past servicing. Both those items would need to be drained, flushed and refilled. The power steering pump, had been replace with a new GM pump, and a new steering box. Even the hose was new before it got fluid less than 10,000 miles ago! Of course the engine as I said has less than 10,000 miles on it and I put a new GM fuel injection spider on it when I installed it. They told me I needed new fuel injectors! At best the people who helped me were stupid. Even though it was obvious that everything under the hood was new, and I told them that. They looked at the high mileage on the truck and just pilled on everything they thought a truck of that age would need. Oh, and the next day when I drove to Phoenix, my AC stopped working! I spent an hour in 105° heat fixing the plug that they never fixed! If you expect, value, service, competency and honesty from your auto service center. Don’t take your car here!
Hi Dale, Thank you for your comments. We are confused regarding your concerns, since you installed all your own A/C system components. When you brought your vehicle in your concern was the A/C system (which was installed and charged with refrigerant by you) was blowing hot. We conducted an inspection and found the system (rated at 4 lbs) had only 1lb of refrigerant. We did check the system for vacuum and it held at the time. Possibly there is a leak coming from one of the components which you installed. We do add dye in the refrigerant that can be identified through UV light. We would be pleased to offer a complementary inspection to identify leak sources with our UV inspection system. Here are the notes made by our technician and placed on your work order: “AC blows hot. Found leak detector all over passenger side of engine bay, also found that AC lines had been replaced, leak detector likely from that repair. Can hear and see compressor engaging. System had charge but charge was low only had 1 lb in the system, spec for this vehicle is 4 lbs. Replaced schrader valves and vacuumed system. System holding vacuum at -28 in.Hg vacuum. Charged system to 4 lbs and inspected system operation. Air blowing cold out of the vents and no apparent signs of leakage.” We do a complete inspection of every vehicle that enters our shop as a safety concern. We noted your “Check Engine Light” was illuminated in addition to other inspected items. You were quoted $3,300 and you declined most of the work. No work was performed without your expressed approval, hence we only proceeded with the work you specifically approved to include recharging the A/C system, Diagnosis of electrical fault in your taillight, which turned out to be a tail lamp circuit plate along with a bulb, which you did approve. We recommended flushes based on mileage and fluid appearance. You declined. We never recommended fuel injector replacement as stated in your review. We did however recommend a fuel injector service based strictly on odometer reading. Your Transmission had no signs of leakage and the fluid looked clean. We have included a photo of the undercarriage showing no leaks which was included in the Digital Vehicle Inspection of which you have a copy.
